December 11, 2019

Heading to the City of Angels for a meeting or event next year? The city is exploding with new and renovated hotels to inspire every type of group. Whether you’re looking for a meeting space in a historic hotel or a trendy rooftop for a cocktail reception, you have plenty of options to choose from. Here are five venues that are catching our eye for 2020 and beyond.

The Wayfarer DTLA

Opening January in the downtown Los Angeles Broadway Corridor’s former Ritz Milner building, this boutique property will have 156 rooms plus four restaurants and a highly unique stairwell gym. While the trendy shared-style rooms encouraging guest-to-guest hosting may not work well for business groups, the hotel has a variety of distinctive event space offerings that will, including the open-air rooftop; The Kitchen, where you can host interactive cooking demos, wine tastings or a chef’s table dinner; and Lilly Rose, a speakeasy-style underground parlor (accessible only via an alley entrance) with craft cocktails and live entertainment.

The Hoxton, Downtown LA

Reminiscent of other locations of The Hoxton brand, the Downtown LA property has been as popular among locals as it is among visitors to the city ever since it opened in October. It’s known as a hangout that’s the epitome of cool, yet it also works well for meetings and events. Planners can choose from options such as a full buyout of the rooftop restaurant, pool, bar and lounge to host a Mediterranean-style reception for up to 150; a buyout or private dining for up to 200 guests in Sibling Rival, a modern-day diner; or The Apartment, a flexible space designed to feel like home that works for intimate meetings or private business lunches and dinners.

This highly anticipated, 148-room hotel in the heart of the Fashion District — slated to open in spring 2020 — blends the creative vision of renowned interior designer Kelly Wearstler with local art and vintage influence. It has 14,000 square feet of meeting space, including an incredible basketball court screening suite on the sixth floor. For VIPs, book the one-of-a-kind Pool Suite or Basketball Court Suite, both available for individual stays or private events. The former has an indoor pool in the living area, while the latter transforms a former racquetball court into a space with soaring ceilings.

The first West Coast location of the modern-chic Godfrey brand blends old Hollywood vibes with contemporary art, tech-forward amenities and a sustainability focus. Opening in early 2020, the hotel will have 220 guest rooms with complimentary Wi-Fi, keyless entry and interactive art pieces. A 28-foot-tall projection mapping screen scaling the hotel’s interior courtyard wall will be an asset for planners wanting to create custom branded experiences on-site. The Godfrey will also feature the largest rooftop space in Hollywood (available for private events), About Last Knife steakhouse, an open-air courtyard and 5,000 square feet of event space.

By hotel standards, this property has been around a while — marking its 20th anniversary this year, and the fifth W in the global brand’s portfolio — but it has never lost its hip factor. Complementing its 297 modern rooms and suites, the hotel recently completed a multimillion dollar renovation of its meeting spaces. Groups now have the opportunity to engage in a breakout session called “Live from the WLA,” with access to pro podcast equipment. Other refreshed venues within the W include the 2,000-square-foot Production room (with a drop-down ceiling screen and projector, and 80-inch smart displays), two Focus rooms (accommodating up to 90 guests each), and a pre-function space with abundant natural light and expansive ceilings.
