How Decibel Event Management is Combatting Event Textile Waste

August 23, 2019

It’s no secret that trade shows and conferences produce a sizable amount of waste that becomes destined for the dumpster after just a few days in the spotlight. Having witnessed this problematic pattern for years, event management and production firm Decibel Event Management has partnered with Reborn Clothing Co. to help tackle event waste by upcycling signage, graphics and other single-use textiles into one-of-a-kind, durable products.

According to David Sonntag, Decibel CEO, the company’s new UpCycling Initiative is designed to not only keep surplus textiles out of landfills but also provide its customers with a responsible merchandising option to help extend the reach of their live events.

“The events industry does generate a great amount of waste from one-time-use fabrics, and we are thrilled to work with our partners at Reborn Clothing to add this option for event graphics,” Sonntag said. “It not only provides a green and environmentally friendly solution for our clients post-event, but it also creates fun, unique products as giveaways that event attendees can purchase as a souvenir.”

Based in Raleigh, N.C., Reborn Clothing Co. is a woman-owned and operated company that transforms surplus event T-shirts and promotional items into upcycled items for internal use or resale. Since its founding in 2017, the company has transformed hundreds of surplus branded apparel and promotional items, according to Reborn officials.

Event textiles can be turned into a wide variety of products, including:Reborn products

  • Picnic blankets
  • Dog bandanas
  • Duffel bags
  • Throw pillows
  • Koozies
  • Coolers
  • Lunchboxes
  • Laptop sleeves
  • Travel chargers
  • Cinch/string bags
  • Travel charger cases
  • Makeup cases
  • Pencil cases
  • Tote bags

Founded on the belief that businesses should be a force for good in the world, Reborn’s CEO and founder, Emily Neville, said that she and her company are thrilled to upcycle leftover and outdated show textiles into unique, sustainable products for Decibel clients.

“We’re proud to pair our upcycling expertise with a company that values purpose-driven experiences and products,” Neville said.
